Tidal is a global music streaming platform for music. It is a paid service available online, via a web browser or app (just for Android or iOS) and offers access to a variety of music content — songs, videos, and original content series such as podcasts, plenty of playlists curated by industry experts/favorite artists, live shows, behind-the-scenes video content, artists meet & greets.

Tidal’s music and videos are exclusively available in their app via streamline use; for offline usage, users can download music and videos to listen to and watch. When it comes to desktop users, the app is only available for in-browser access. However, there is plenty of interest and high demand for the premium service offered by Tidal.

Besides other unofficial alternatives to the lack of a desktop app, there is the Tidal Media Downloader. It is an open-source tool that comes with two surprising alternatives: a desktop app, a download-only substitute for the official version, plus the second pack/tool which is a command-line utility that permits all types of downloads from Tidal.

Both the desktop app (with a normal graphic interface for the user) and its corresponding command-line tool are available to use on Windows, macOS, and Linux. First released in July 2019, the open-source ambitious project has consistently perfected over time and offers complex capabilities such as multiple concomitant downloads, downloading single or cumulative elements (a whole album/playlist), adding metadata, downloading a video in the chosen quality and at the desired resolution.

This and other unofficial alternatives offer access only to paying Tidal members and they can be opened exclusively by entering your credentials that authenticate an existing account. It only supports access for Tidal-HiFi subscription which is the most expensive one offered by Tidal, at $19.99 / month (with uncompressed sound file, at 1411 kbps quality).

Tidal is a high-quality sound, lossless audio experience with unlimited music (across multiple devices). It is a premium service that offers exclusive benefits to its users for creating fidelity and a strong sentiment of belonging. Given the context, it is understandable why there are unofficial alternatives for desktop use. For Windows users, you can simply download this Tidal Media Downloader GUI program. No installation required. After downloading, you can refer to the steps or video below to see how it works.

Step 1. Extract the file and run the program.

Step 2. Run the following command:

Step 3. When that is done, every time you want to use this program, just type “tidal-dl”to bring up the Tidal Media Downloader screen.

Step 4. As the instruction shows, type “1” to log in with your email and password for Tidal.

Step 5. Then type “2”to change the default settings if needed. Then you can type “4”and then track ID to download a Tidal track. Track ID means the 8 figure number at the end of the track URL.

Type the corresponding number to download the Tidal album, playlist, or video.

It is pretty much the to download Tidal music on Android, but first you need to install the Termux app, which allows you to run Python script and other scripts.

Step 1. Download and install Termux app. You can free download it from Google Play.
